INTRODUCTION

How many doctor appointments have you missed lately?

Life has accelerated so much in recent years that it's hard to keep up with all the deadlines and important information. An application that allows you to control deadlines and measurements is very important, it must be thought out to the smallest detail.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

One of the basic steps in the design thinking process is competitor analysis.

In the case of a new product, it is best to go to this step at the beginning, to know how to present it and what users benefit from. If our product is no longer popular, we can always see what ideas and solutions are used by a popular competitor. This can inspire us to learn and adapt to better meet user needs.

DIRECT OR INDIRECT COMPETITION?

I can easily find companies offering the same features that I want to offer. The question is, what could be done better?

I chose two existing health apps to run my research: TOM and Medisafe - these are my direct competitors.

TOM - Pill and Tablet Reminder

"Key features at a glance" - description from google play store pinpoints the value propositions, the value that company promises to deliver to customers.

  • Extremely easy to use thanks to dialogue-based design: TOM asks and you reply – without filling in forms or having to tediously search through menus
  • Add new medication, measurements or activities quickly and easily
  • Send or print PDFs of monthly health reports
  • High-quality graphs and statistics for all medication taken, health measurements and activities
  • Keep your patients diary up to date: medications taken daily, medication intervals of several days or hours, single doses or taken sporadically
  • Modern solution for managing medications in order to ensure they are taken at the right time and to monitor the progress of your treatment.
  • Pill alarm if you forget to take your medications

Nice concept but if you watch it very closely and read in the descriptions. There's a good chance of over dose. Especially if you're not paying attention or if you happen to take your meds a little off track time. I tried it for 2 months. I deleted it.

Best one i've found so far because it's easy to use and has half hour increments. BUT, med times don't self-adjust. (For example, if I wait an extra hour to take a med, the timer doesn't self-adjust for when to take the next dose, meaning I could overdose if i'm not paying close attention).

... I set it up so it would remind me to take my breathing treatment. I need to take breathing treatment to breathe ..."

I like the free app. I am using it for me but it would be nice to be able to put a profile to add someone else like my elderly mother who needs assistance, I could track her meds for her on my phone too!

Having reviews of users I can clearly see what should be improved, this is a sign for me, what is important to my users and what I should focus on.

Most users are very satisfied with the application, as evidenced by the average rating of 4.6. Dissatisfied customers, however, are a very important voice, their bad experience can hurt the company a lot, as well as the fact that the user may overdose the drug, which of course no one would want.

Opportunities

  • better and reliable notifications
  • multiple profiles
  • work offline
  • edit the time when user took medication

Strengths

  • minimalistic and clear design
  • confirmations/success messages
  • edit feature
